Drawing and painting was always a big part of her life, but the decision to pursue it as an occupation came only after attending art classes at Pueblo Community college in Colorado. Svetlana moved to United States in 2001 and nostalgia about Russian country side played a big role in the style of artwork she chose to do. A lot of times it shows not a certain situation or a person, but a combination of memories, only sometimes connected to some specific place. That's why the picture is simplified to a core and there are no faces in her paintings. It also allows the viewer to image themselves or their loved ones in the place of Svetlana's characters.

This is what the artist herself says about her work: “ Today, I paint a portrait of a simple life, this is my main subject matter and  my inspiration.  Things that move me are coming from the place of my earlier years: Grandma's modest house with primitive amenities, the garden and the damned potato field which I hated to tend back then and love and cherish the memory of it now.
My artwork for me, is the way to bring back the feelings and memories of my childhood and youth, when the time was slow and life simple. Somehow, even without the same life experiences, others connect to it too, maybe it's a genetic memory, or maybe it's a craving to slow down and enjoy life as is, without the additional material content and unnecessary stress of the modern life.”
